It is the time to review some players’ individual performance in the season of St. Louis Blues. Eric Brewer is my first introduction, the one of who spent a good portion of the season with the Blues before being dealt at the trade deadline. (From STL blues jerseys ) Brewer was the centerpiece in the Chris Pronger trade after the lockout and fans have ridden him since the day he arrived in St. Louis. Brewer never instilled much confidence on the back line or in the offensive zone, yet the Blues management saw a leader and appointed Brew the captain in 2008. Brewer abruptly played only 28 games that first season as captain, notching a goal and 5 assists with a -14 rating, hardly Captain material. Brewer would have back surgery in 2008 and it did seem to make a difference for the often robotic defenseman. Over the next two seasons, Brewer had 16 goals; by far his best stretch in St. Louis and this season Brewer had a +1 rating, his only time being a plus player for the Blues. In a contract year and with the Blues looking to get younger on the blue line, Brewer’s solid play put his name on the trade block surprisingly. As the deadline neared, the Tampa Bay Lightning moved in and Brewer agreed to waive his no trade clause to move to a playoff contending team. The Blues acquired defensive prospect Brock Beukeboom and Tampa’s 3rd round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft. While the Blues seemed to be set on the defensive line next year, Brewer is an unrestricted free agent after the season and is open to the possibility of returning to St. Louis.
