The firmness factor of the compression stockings is what gives them that attribute. Different parts of the leg anatomy could not be getting enough blood circulation so in order to take care of this there are different lengths of compression socks available to fit the different needs:
1. If it is the knee to the ankle area, then they get to wear the knee-high compression socks.
2. If the blood circulation is needed from the whole thigh area, then they can have the thigh high sock.
3. And if it is the whole leg area, then they will wear the panty hose compression socks.
If the compression stockings are not worn as needed, then the following diseases will take precedence;
1. Edema- this is when a lot of unnecessary fluid build up in one area just beneath the skin causing swellings that could be reduced or prevented if the compressions socks were being worn.
2. Phlebitis- in this case, the veins are affected the most with phlebitis because they swell or inflame mostly around the leg area.
3. Thrombosis- in thrombosis, the presence of a blood clot in the blood vessel causes the blood not to move around freely and this will later cause a lot of swelling to take place.
All these disease can be controlled and even prevented if the compression socks were being put on.
1. Gradient type
2. Anti-embolism
The gradient type of compression stockings is ideal in cases in which the valves of the leg area do not perform their functions well. Therefore, wherever the valve is not working properly, then the compression will be the tightest and in this case, it seems to be the ankle area. Thrombosis patients find themselves wearing these gradient compression socks because the compression helps in eliminating the blood clots that hinder blood flow and cause serious swellings at the same time.
Anti embolism compression socks help in making sure that the lymph fluid is transported and drained well so that swellings cannot occur. It is hard to notice or even differentiate these socks from the normal ones because they share design and colors that are similar to other socks. People who do not have any of these illnesses can also wear the compression socks but always choose the low compressions ones.
Compression socks and compression stockings are not only stylish, but they also add a medical advantage for those who have thrombosis, edema and even phlebitis.
